Horse Hay, Pasture Tips Highlighted At Meeting

Horse owners who want to bone up on the nutritive value of purchased hay and forage production and management can attend a May 3 workshop at the Pearce Pavilion in College Station, TX. Drought conditions in Texas have made hay short in supply and stressed pasture conditions, says Larry Redmon, Texas Cooperative Extension state forage specialist, who will be one of the speakers. "Many horse owners are faced with pastures that require significant care due to continuing drought conditions across the state," he explains. "Horse hay is currently in short supply, with quality and safety being primary concerns."

The workshop will cover such topics as horse pastures and selection and feeding of various hays and processed roughages. Other topics will include fertilization, weed management and toxic plants. Advance registration is $100. For more information, contact Redmon at 979-845-4826 or email
