Texas Growers Have Plenty Of Hay

Dustin and Dave James of Hanging 4 J Farms, Inc., Princeton, TX, need buyers for about 10,000 round bales of coastal bermudagrass and sorghum-sudangrass hay. Dustin James contacted Hay & Forage Grower after reading about the nationwide hay shortage in the magazine's August issue. (See Green Gold, page 14, or click on hayandforage.com.)

"The market down here is pretty much flooded," says James, who has about 2,500 acres of hay. "I know a lot of guys in those areas that you mentioned are needing it, and they don't know we have it." He realizes transportation costs could be a problem for some, but if you're a volume buyer, "we'll try to work with you," he says.

Princeton is in northeastern Texas, about an hour's drive from Dallas. "It rained on us most of June, but it dried up about mid-July," says James. "We've got some good-quality hay."
