Wyoming Forage Expert Retires

Alan Gray, director of the University of Wyoming Powell Research and Extension Center and a former forage extension specialist at Riverton, retired May 18. Gray sustained serious injuries during an accident at the center July 27, 2005, and has been recuperating. He was harvesting an alfalfa test plot with a flail harvester when the rotating head of the machine caught a 3" piece of wire. The rusty wire shot through his left nostril, traveled at an upward angle and passed into his brain. Because of his dramatic survival, Gray was the subject of a television documentary on medical marvels that aired on the Discovery Health Channel last summer.
