The University of Wisconsin Lancaster Ag Research Station will host its 10th annual Profitable Pastures Field Day on Friday, Aug. 13, with updates on current research and pasture management issues. The program begins with registration from 9:15 to 9:30 a.m. and will end by 3:30 p.m.

Special guest speaker will be Ben Bartlett, Michigan State University dairy and livestock Extension specialist, who will discuss and demonstrate the key principles and use of low-stress handling methods for livestock production. Also, John Rodgers, technical services veterinarian for Pfizer Animal Health, will discuss herd-health strategies for pastured livestock systems.

Following lunch cooked by the Grant County Cattlemen’s Association, a research station tour will cover current projects, including soy hulls as a pasture finishing supplement, brown midrid sorghum-sudangrass and teff for midsummer grazing, and managed grazing of kura clover and soft-leaf tall fescue at two steer stocking rates.
