The Newest Alfalfas

Some of the newest proprietary alfalfas are listed in the online alfalfa variety pamphlet, Winter Survival, Fall Dormancy & Pest Resistance Rates for Alflalfa Varieties 2010 Edition. Nine new varieties within the pamphlet were made eligible for certification by seed certifying agencies by gaining approval from the National Alfalfa & Miscellaneous Legumes Variety Review Board in 2009.

Organized by dormancy, these new varieties are:
Fall Dormancy 4: 54Q32, FSG 420LH, Phenomenal, WL 353LH;
Fall Dormancy 5:
55V12;
Fall Dormancy 6:
SW 6330, WL 440HQ;
Fall Dormancy 7: PGI 709;
Fall Dormancy 9:
AmeriStand 901TS.

Also newly eligible for certification but not in the pamphlet is a new FD 3 variety called BigSky Ladak. Its characteristics are listed in the table below with 18 other alfalfa varieties new to the marketplace that are in the process of seeking the variety board’s approval.
