Cool-Season Grasses Rated For Grazing

Thirty-two improved grass varieties and grass/legume mixtures were graded for their yield and quality in grazing plots at the University of Findlay (OH) Equestrian Center from 2003 to 2006.

Top-performing grass varieties for yield included Horsemaster mix and white clover, Bronson tall fescue, Hakari bromegrass and Bar-dina orchardgrass. Top-performing grass varieties rated for quality were a mix of orchardgrass, tall fescue, perennial ryegrass and white clover; festulolium; timothy; and perennial ryegrass.

Plot measurements were taken three to four times each year.
