BMR Sorghum-Sudan Replaces Corn Silage

Brown midrib (BMR) sorghum-sudangrass silage is an effective replacement for corn silage in dairy cow diets, say researchers at the Miner Institute, Chazy, NY.

They fed TMRs containing either BMR sorgum-sudangrass silage or corn silage at 35% or 45% of ration dry matter. Twelve cows were fed each ration.

Dry matter intake was greatest for diets containing corn silage, but feed efficiency was better for the sorghum-sudan diets. Milk production was the same for the two types of silage.
