U.S. hay prices ticked slightly upward last month, according to USDA’s Agricultural Prices report released last week.
The average price received by farmers for all hay in February was $176/ton, up $4 from the January price. In February 2011, the all-hay price was $116.
The average alfalfa price in February, $198/ton, was up by $6/ton from the January number and $69 higher than the average price in February 2011. Among the 27 states reporting, the alfalfa price was highest in New Mexico, at $301/ton.
