Economic and industry trends, water and environment issues and producing a quality-hay product will be discussed at the 2013 Western Alfalfa & Forage Symposium, slated for Dec. 11-13.

Sponsored by the University of California and Cooperative Extension in 11 Western states, the symposium will be held at the Peppermill Hotel Casino in Reno, NV. It’s designed for farmers, pest control and certified crop advisors, industry members and agency representatives.

Other sessions will look at pest management in alfalfa, diagnosing and improving alfalfa production, alfalfa genetics, the fundamentals of silage making and more.

An exhibit area will feature the latest in alfalfa and forage products and services and evening receptions will offer attendees networking opportunities.

Registration is $195/person through Nov. 27. After that, the fee increases to $225 in advance of the event or $250 at the door. A separate fee of $45/person will be charged for a Dec. 11 pre-symposium workshop focusing on tools for enterprise budgeting and designing and building a family business.
