Summer Brings Hay Bale Toss Events

Opportunities to throw hay bales and raise funds for the Southeastern Minnesota Forage Council will be available at three southern Minnesota events this summer, says Gayland Jones, event coordinator. The forage council, a member of the Midwest Forage Association, will sponsor the hay toss competitions at the Fillmore and Mower county fairs and at the Root River Antique Historical Power Association.

For $2, each participant gets three chances to throw a 5- to 10-lb hay bale the farthest in one or more of 12 categories. Team entry fee is $3. Ribbons and other prizes will be awarded.

The first bale toss will be July 19, 3-5 p.m., at the Fillmore County Fair, Preston MN. It will be held in or near the horse arena. On July 20, 1-3 p.m., a hay bale toss will be held at the Root River Antique Historical Power Association Antique Engine & Tractor Show, north of Spring Valley. It will be held on the horse pulling track. On Aug. 11, at the Mower County Fair, Austin, MN, the third bale toss will be held at the antique tractor pull arena.
