Plant growth and forage management will be two topics discussed at the Feb. 11 Ohio Forage and Grassland Council (OFGC) annual meeting at the Ohio Department of Agriculture in Reynoldsburg.
Marvin Hall, Pennsylvania State University Extension forage agronomist, will explain how plant growth affects forage management in a morning session. In the afternoon, he’ll talk about how non-structural carbohydrates in forages affect animal preference and production.
Glenn Shewmaker, University of Idaho Extension forage specialist, will give a morning talk on optimizing forage yield and energy with management. Later in the day, he’ll discuss the behind-the-scenes factors that dictate forage management.
A panel of beef, dairy and sheep producers will also be a part of the program, and a vendor show has been scheduled. The event runs from 8:30 a.m to 4 p.m. and costs $30 for OFGC members and $40 for non-members.
