Alfalfa growers who’ve been planting Syngenta or NK varieties can continue to buy the same ones from the same Garst, Golden Harvest and NK dealers, but the seed bags will soon carry a different brand.
Forage Genetics International and Syngenta just launched Nexgrow, a new brand incorporating all existing Syngenta and NK varieties plus future introductions (see logo, below). Until now, says Brent Johnson, Nexgrow alfalfa brand manager, Syngenta’s conventional varieties carried the Syngenta brand and Roundup Ready varieties were marketed under the NK brand.
“NK, Syngenta and Forage Genetics have had a relationship that goes back 20 years,” Johnson explains. “In 1992, NK’s germplasm was merged into Forage Genetics’. This is kind of a continuation of that, and it also helps bring some clarity to the branding strategy for alfalfa at Syngenta. Now we’re able to unify our advertising and promotion program under one Nexgrow brand.”
Seven new varieties, with fall dormancies ranging from 2 to 10, will be introduced under the new brand for the 2013 spring planting season, he adds.
