The 2012 edition of the Winter Survival, Fall Dormancy & Pest Resistance Ratings for Alfalfa Varieties leaflet is now available. Painstakingly gathered by the National Alfalfa & Forage Alliance, this is the third year that the eight-page listing has been published in Hay & Forage Grower’s November 2011 issue (see leaflet in our November digital version at digital-edition.hayandforage.com).

Major breeding companies have submitted pure alfalfa varieties, listed by fall dormancy, to aid growers as they make their buying decisions. New this year are two columns – one listing salt tolerance and the other to help growers distinguish among conventional, Roundup Ready and hybrid alfalfas.

All listed varieties have been approved by the National Alfalfa and Miscellaneous Legumes Variety Review Board (NAVRB) and are eligible for certification by seed certifying agencies. The insect and disease resistance information comes from the Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies and NAVRB.

The leaflet is also downloadable from www.alfalfa.org. Order print copies, at 50¢ each plus shipping, from the same Web site.
