Growers of high-quality forages in 11 western states have until Dec. 13 to submit entries for the 2013 World Ag Expo Forage Challenge.
Contest categories include alfalfa hay, standard corn silage and brown midrib corn silage. Up to $18,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to winners who will be announced Feb. 12 at World Ag Expoin Tulare, CA.
Entries will be judged according to forage lab analyses and visual evaluations conducted by dairy nutrition and forage production experts. The University of California Davis will test hay samples, while Cumberland Valley Analytical Services, Hagerstown, MD, will test corn silage entries. There is a $25/sample entry fee.
