Grant funds totaling $250,000 will help 53 horse-welfare organizations and animal-control agencies in 19 states buy hay for at-risk horses. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) awarded the money in response to this year’s hay shortages.
“The ASPCA knows of the devastating hardships that the equine community is facing this year due to the immense shortages and skyrocketing costs of hay,” says Jacques Schultz, senior director of the ASPCA Equine Fund. “Our Hay Bale-Out program provides the dedicated equine caretakers with the funds needed to properly care for their animals.”
Of the organizations awarded funds, 15 are based in California, while seven have headquarters in Texas. Five organizations in Arizona and another five in Colorado will also receive funds. See a complete listing of organizations receiving funds.
