The fourth annual Beef Cattle and Forage Grazing Workshop will be held Sept. 13 at North Dakota State University’s Dickinson Research Extension Center Ranch Headquarters southwest of Manning, ND.
The program, which runs from 1 to 5 p.m., will include a discussion on alternatives to current high grain prices by Doug Landblom, beef specialist at the center. Landblom will also talk about sequencing of perennial and annual forages to reduce the number of days to finish steers in the feedlot.
Beef producer Myron Lick of Ruso will speak on grass finishing and direct marketing, and range specialist Kevin Sedivec will present information on high stocking density and rapid rotations.
A representative from the feedlot industry has been invited to discuss finishing yearling steers that have been grown on forages for an extended period, and Kris Ringwall and Carl Dahlen, Extension beef specialists, will present information on animal frame size and efficiency.
