"The price of hay has dropped - there's too much hay for the market."

That recent report, from a Michigan grower, doesn't typify what's happening across the country. In many states, hay prices rose as winter set in, although not dramatically. For the most part, the big price gains that were predicted for high-quality hay this winter haven't yet materialized.

These prices were gathered in late December from hay growers, dealers and USDA. Figures followed by (D) are delivered prices. All others are at the farm. Cube and pellet prices are bulk unless otherwise indicated.
