Graziers who want to know what’s growing in their pastures can find out in a revised book from University of Missouri Extension.
Whether it’s a desirable plant or a weed, there’s probably a picture of it in A Guide to the Common Forages and Weeds of Pastures. This 54-page book is a greatly revised edition with new forages and new weeds, says Rob Kallbach, Missouri forage specialist.
Kallenbach added charts that quickly identify plant adaptability for different uses. Another page tells seeding rates and dates for best success. Each grass has three color photos and a text block that describes its best use. Each weed gets one picture plus text for identification.
The book, number M169, is available from University of Missouri Extension Publications for $14. It can be ordered through local Missouri extension centers, by credit card at 800-292-0969, or online at http://muextension.missouri.edu/explore/order.htm.
