Huge Chopper

Krone North America's newest forage harvester, a 1,000-hp Big X with a 14-row corn head, will be field-tested this summer. If the European and U.S. tests are successful, it probably will be introduced in 2007, says C.W. Doss, commercial product sales manager. The largest Big X now on the market has 780 hp.

Forage Harvesters

Claas of America's latest Jaguar forage harvester line is the Green Eye. It offers two length of cut (LOC) gearbox options: the new “comfort cut,” hydraulically driven chop length gearbox, which adjusts directly from the cab, and its mechanical LOC gearbox.

It also features a new, adjustable metal detector and direct driving of the chopping system for highly effective power transfer and low specific fuel consumption.

New engines meet the Tier 3 standard (345-623 hp). Other improvements include a Corn Cracker for better crop processing, a variable additive application system and hydrostatic motors.

Moisture Testers

Hay moisture testers from Dickey-john, Auburn, IL, provide immediate moisture content levels from 6% to 40%. Some units average readings for you; others monitor moisture as you bale. For increased precision, all models feature built-in battery and calibration checks and a temperature-stable circuit.
