The day-long tour before the California Alfalfa and Grains Symposium, Dec. 11-12, investigated four enterprises in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta area. Nearly 130 forage and wheat industry folks learned of the water-use and unique soil challenges delta farmers deal with.

Commercialism and education were alive and well at the Oct. 2-6 World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI. Livestock producers showcased their animals' genetics, hay growers displayed their hay and equipment companies presented the latest technologies. Expo goers were also treated to a variety of seminars, virtual tours and exhibits showing new and proved products. Here's a slice of what was offered.

To help Chinese universities improve alfalfa utilization in their country, University of Wisconsin Extension forage specialist Dan Undersander toured several of China's alfalfa production areas and dairies for three weeks this summer. He offered technical advice and is helping the Chinese determine future alfalfa research. Here's his first-hand account.
