Legacy Seeds, Inc (Scandinavia, WI and Nampa, ID), the only independent alfalfa breeder in the industry, announces that they are breaking ground on an Alfalfa Breeding Facility and Research Campus beginning in October 2017. The Alfalfa Breeding Facility and Research Campus is located just east of Waupaca, WI.

“We are excited to further invest in our alfalfa breeding program and research” states Legacy Seeds co-owner and President Bruce Ceranske. Dave Huset (Legacy’s Director of Alfalfa Research and Alfalfa Plant Breeder) is helping design the facility with Ceranske. Huset commented that “we will have a state of the art facility and 25 acre campus to ensure that we can continue to provide products for the whole non-GMO alfalfa market for many years to come.” Dave Robison, Legacy’s Alfalfa Product Manager, is pleased that Legacy can host more tours for the Legacy alfalfa program. “Our alfalfa team hosts customers from around the world and it will be wonderful to have a new facility to meet in and campus to tour so that they can better see the research that our alfalfa breeding team is working on”, states Robison. He added that the facility will also be used to train Midwestern producers about managing alfalfa production for greater profitability. “We want to help dairy and alfalfa producers to be as profitable as possible – much of that profit equation is managing the top varieties the best way” adds Robison.

Legacy Seeds will also conduct corn, soybean, and wheat research on the campus that will be the main location for product tours for Legacy Brand dealers and customers. “We wanted to move our main alfalfa breeding and research north from Evansville, WI closer to our main sales facility in Scandinavia, WI so we sought out a local farm with particularly good soil for alfalfa. In doing this we also wanted to have enough land to conduct research and host field days on the other crops we sell through our dealer network”, stated Ceranske.
