The National Agricultural Statistics Service released their June 2015 hay price summary last week with the expected result of most states showing lower hay prices for June compared to May. For alfalfa hay, Arizona led the pack with a month-to-month decline of $40 per ton. They were followed by Wisconsin (-$31) and New York (-$30). Idaho's average price actually increased by $20 per ton. Overall, the U.S. alfalfa hay price declined by $14 per ton to $178, which is significantly lower than the June price from one year ago ($222 per ton). A similar trend occurred for hay other than alfalfa, though price drops were not as great. Largest declines were in Arizona and New York (-$25), Michigan (-$20) and Wisconsin (-$17). The U.S. month-to-month other hay price dropped $7 per ton to $127.
