Highlights: New Heifer Barn & Field Tours, Educational Sessions, Equipment

Farmers are invited to trek through a new heifer barn with state-of-the-art technology as well as tour alfalfa fields and learn the latest in feeding forages during the Thursday, Aug. 2, Southeast Minnesota Forage Council Summer Field Day. It will be hosted by Nate and Misty Heusinkveld at Heusinkveld Farms, Spring Valley, MN. This annual field day begins at 10 a.m. and is FREE; please RSVP to help with adequate meal counts. The educational sessions include: Feeding Small Grain Cover Crops, Feeding BMR Corn Silage with Reduced Lignin Alfalfa – Good or Bad?, Using Reduced Lignin Forages in Dairy Diets, Forage & Livestock Management on the Heusinkveld Farm, and How Minnesota Dairy Initiative Dairy Teams Help Farmers. Field-day participants will not only tour the Heusinkvelds' alfalfa fields, but also get a look at their new heifer barn, which features rumination and activity collars. Equipment displays from machinery manufacturers will also be a part of the event. The field day will be held at 17526 County Hwy 5, Spring Valley.
