A virtual cool-season annual field day

The current COVID-19 situation has all but put a halt to every planned in-person group activity, including educational events. As such, innovative distance learning techniques have been used as alternatives.


Doug Mayo, an extension agent the Florida Panhandle’s Jackson County, and Ann Blount, a well-known University of Florida (UF) plant breeder, recently combined to take virtual learning to the next level by offering an online field day that features a tour of UF small grain and ryegrass forage plots at the North Florida Research and Education Center near Marianna, Fla.


Even if you’re not farming in the Southeast, this 12-minute video visually depicts the fact that species and variety selection is important and very much impacts productivity.
