DOE Video On Biofuel Impact On Rural Areas

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released a new video that showcases how cellulosic biofuel technologies can help decrease U.S. dependence on foreign oil, spur growth in the domestic biofuels industry and provide new revenue opportunities to farmers, according to a DOE news release.

The video, shot at a harvesting equipment demonstration in Emmetsburg, IA, highlights the production of ethanol from cellulose fibers in corncobs. The technology generates a new opportunity for farmers to harvest and sell cobs they’d normally leave in fields. To date, DOE has committed over $1 billion to 27 cost-shared biorefinery projects.
