Don Miller
Mountain View Seeds is proud to announce the hiring of Dr. Don Miller to our team. “I am excited about having Don Miller on our team. We share a mutual vision for the future of alfalfa in America. Bringing varieties with unique characteristics like higher digestibility, suitability to grasses, grazing, drought and salt tolerance. I am optimistic about alfalfa being in the hands of forage companies,” said Mark Thomas, Vice President of Forage & Cover Crops for Mountain View Seeds.

Don was formally the Director of Product Development for Alforex Seeds from 2008-2022. During his forty-year career in the public and private industry, Dr. Miller has authored or co-authored numerous agricultural publications and conducted 300 plus training seminars for Universities and Grower organizations. Dr. Miller has developed or co-developed 100 alfalfa varieties, 6 red clover and one Teff grass variety during his plant breeding career. He released alfalfa varieties for the domestic and international markets with fall dormancies ranging from 2-10. Plant breeding objectives included developing conventional varieties with improvements for yield and forage quality as well as developing grazing and traffic tolerant alfalfa lines. Most recent efforts have been to assist in the development and marketing of saline and drought tolerant varieties for improved forage production in marginal growing environments.

“In recent years there has been a lot of turmoil in the forage seed industry making it more difficult for producers to easily access quality forage grass and alfalfa seed. To better fulfill customer forage needs, MVS has decided to expand their forage grass seed portfolio to include a wider array of alfalfa varieties. In this effort to offer a more complete forage seed portfolio, I am very excited about joining the Mountain View Seeds team to assist them in developing a diverse alfalfa portfolio that fulfills the forage needs of both grass and alfalfa producers,” said Dr. Miller.
