With the 2012 haying season just getting under way, organizers of the Southeastern Hay Contest are reminding hay growers in that part of the country to start thinking about their entries for this year’s competition.
The contest is held in conjunction with the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, GA, scheduled for Oct. 16-18. Hay growers in 13 states (Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia) are eligible.
Entries are judged in six categories: warm-season perennial grass hay; perennial peanut or alfalfa hay; cool-season perennial grass hay; grass baleage; legume baleage and mixed, annual grass or other hay.
Participation fee is $15/entry. The deadline for entering is Sept. 24. Get contest guidelines and an entry form.
