At least 23 seed companies are marketing 38 Genuity Roundup Ready alfalfa varieties, all approved by the National Alfalfa and Miscellaneous Legumes Variety Review Board (NAVRB).
The variety information, in table form listing pest resistance information, was obtained from the Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies (AOSCA) and the NAVRB and can be viewed at http://www.alfalfa.org/varietyLeaflet.php.
It was organized as an addendum to the National Alfalfa & Forage Alliance’s (NAFA) 2011 edition of the Winter Survival, Fall Dormancy & Pest Resistance Ratings for Alfalfa Varieties leaflet, published in Hay & Forage Grower’s November 2010 issue.
The Roundup Ready alfalfa varieties range from 3 to 9 in fall dormancy, with a majority of varieties – 21 – available in fall dormancy 4.
Growers in regions of the country ready to plant have or soon will receive delivery of newly bagged seed sent from bulk storage in the West, according to several seed company representatives.

Other varieties that don’t have NAVRB approval, or are currently seeking board approval, are also being marketed.
