Another move against Roundup Ready alfalfa is in the works - this time an online petition.
Opponents of Roundup Ready alfalfa are demanding that USDA and President Obama “reverse approval” of the genetically engineered crop with an online petition drive on Care2. Care2 bills itself as the “largest online community for healthy and green living, human rights and animal welfare.”
A recent ruling by a federal judge in San Francisco – that USDA acted properly in approving Roundup Ready alfalfa – prompted the posting of the petition. Identified as petition sponsors are “Susan V and Concerned Citizens.”
“This ruling is the straw that has broken the camel’s back!” reads the petition in part. “Please be clear that the majority of the public does not want organic and conventional agriculture contaminated by GE Alfalfa and other GMO crops!”
The sponsors’ goal is to collect 20,000 signatures. As of late last week, 47 people had signed.
