Cornell University’s Northwest New York Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Team is offering a Hay and Pasture Workshop on April 27 at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Center in Albion.
The program is intended for livestock operations of all sizes. The first half of the 2.5-hour program will be devoted to pasture establishment and management. Topics to be addressed include soils, forage selection, pasture stocking rates, fencing and water needs and grazing plan basics.
Quality hay production will be discussed during the second half of the meeting. Plant selection, fertilization, weed control, haymaking equipment, harvesting process, target harvest dates, chemical preservatives and storage will be discussed.
