Neal Martin, director of the U.S. Dairy Forage Research Center in Madison, WI, recently received the first-ever John S. Shenk Memorial Award for 20 years of service to the NIRS Forage and Feed Testing Consortium (NIRSC).

One of the NIRSC founders in 1992, Martin served on its board from 1998 through 2003. He has been a strong advocate of NIRS forage testing, and has encouraged other scientists to study and use it.

The award, presented to Martin, at right, by Tim Hoerner, NIRSC president, was created in memory of Shenk, a major developer of NIRS analysis.
