The prices U.S. farmers received for hay bumped up just slightly in December compared to prices the previous month, according to USDA’s recently released Agricultural Prices report.
The report puts the average price for all hay in December at $177/ton, up $1/ton from the November price. Compared to prices of a year earlier, the all-hay price was $66/ton higher.
At $199/ton, the average price of alfalfa hay in December was also $1/ton higher than it was in November. In December 2010, the average U.S. price for alfalfa hay was $121/ton.
