Roundup Ready alfalfa will be one of the main topics at the National Alfalfa Symposium, set for Dec. 13-15 at the Town and Country Resort Hotel in San Diego, CA.

“Roundup Ready alfalfa is likely to be released in 2005, so this is a good opportunity to examine the technology before it hits the fields,” says Mike Ottman, University of Arizona alfalfa specialist.

“We will have speakers on markets, production methods, forage quality and pest management,” adds Dan Putnam, University of California extension specialist. “But speakers will also cover a wide range of current environmental issues, such as water use, recycling of wastewater, irrigation efficiency and pesticide runoff.”

The event will include a Dec. 13 agricultural tour of California’s Imperial Valley.

Registration is $150 before Dec. 1; $180 thereafter. For more information, contact Putnam at dhputnam@ucdavis.edu, or Nikki Clark at ndclark@ucdavis.edu. More information and registration forms also are available at alfalfa.ucdavis.edu.
