A draft standard on net-wrap for round balers is expected to be finished by early 2010, according to the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE).

The organization points out that net-wrap is manufactured by numerous companies, and a lack of standardized minimum requirements results in wide quality variations. That makes it difficult for end users to choose a net-wrap that will provide trouble-free operation in their specific balers.

“This standard will provide uniform knitted and extruded net-wrap nomenclature and minimum specifications, which will insure satisfactory performance in a properly adjusted round baler and provide adequate durability in normal storage and handling of the baled forage or biomass,” ASABE writes.
