Selecting alfalfa varieties to help manage pests and diseases as well as strategies for managing aphids in alfalfa. Those will be among topics discussed at the Sept. 5 University of California (UC) Extension Alfalfa and Forage Field Day. It will be held at the (UC) Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Parlier.

Weed management strategies in alfalfa with and without Roundup, getting the most from nitrogen fixation when rotating alfalfa and grains and irrigation strategies for sorghum will also be discussed. A tour of alfalfa hay fields, showing how Roundup Ready and conventional alfalfa coexist, and a presentation on ag crime prevention are also on the event’s agenda.
