A newly opened Vytelle™ laboratory in Ames, Iowa, will make the company’s advanced reproductive services more widely available for Midwest dairy and beef producers.

Vytelle offers a revolutionary in vitro fertilization (IVF) process that helps dairy and beef producers get more calves from their best cows and heifers, speeding genetic progress in their herds. The new Iowa lab is a key component of this process. Vytelle will celebrate the facility with an open house on Wednesday, Sept. 18, starting with a ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m.

The Ames lab will process oocytes collected at Vytelle satellite ovum pick-up (OPU) centers in Iowa, South Dakota and Ohio. At these OPU centers and others throughout the country, reproductive specialists collect oocytes using a simple, hormone-free process that is easy on animals. Collected oocytes are then sent to the lab for cleaning, sorting and fertilization using the cow owner’s choice of sires.

“With the Vytelle IVF process, producers can choose either conventional semen or reverse sorted semen to produce embryos for implantation into recipient animals. It’s an easy way for dairy and beef herds to improve the genetic value of their herds,” Michael Bishop, Ph.D., Vytelle director of strategy.

The new lab is at 1421 S. Bell Ave, Suite #108A, Ames, Iowa, 50010. Cattlemen, dairy producers, veterinarians and all others interested in learning about Vytelle’s revolutionary hormone-free IVF process are invited to tour the laboratory on Sept. 18, visit with specialists on site and learn about oocyte collection and processing.

“As Vytelle expands across the Midwest and globally, this laboratory space is vital to enhance the productivity of collections at our satellite OPU centers and make our services more widely available to producers,” says Bruno Sanches, Vytelle chief operating officer.
