With more than $22,000 in cash prizes at stake, growers are urged to enter the World Forage Analysis Superbowl by the Aug. 16 and Sept. 6 deadlines.
The first deadline is for the contest’s brown midrib and standard corn silage categories; the second is for dairy hay, haylage, baleage, commercial hay and grass hay. Entrants are asked to submit samples of 2011-crop corn silage, while all other forage samples must be from crops produced this year.
Contest organizers want 25-lb hay samples, taken from any size or type of bale, and 2-gallon silage samples. All samples will be tested for dry matter, crude protein, ADF, NDF and other parameters, and results will be mailed to entrants.
Cash will be presented to top finishers in the seven categories plus the top first-time entrant and two Quality Counts award winners. Finalists will be notified in September and invited to attend an Oct. 3 awards luncheon at World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI.
The fee is $25 per entry. For contest rules, entry forms and other details, visit www.foragesuperbowl.org or call 715-758-2178.
