U.S. hay prices moved up slightly again in March, according to USDA’s Agricultural Prices report released last week.
The average price received by farmers for all hay in March was $181/ton, up $5 from the February price. In March 2011, the all-hay price was $126/ton.
The average alfalfa price in March, $201/ton, was up $3/ton from the February figure and $59 higher than the average price in March 2011. New Mexico reported the highest alfalfa price, $301/ton, among the 27 reporting states. North Dakota had the lowest average price, $78/ton.
