Falling crude-oil prices should translate into lower retail prices for gasoline in 2013 and 2014, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
In its January 2013 Short-Term Energy Outlook, EIA forecast a national average gasoline retail price at $3.44/gallon for this year, down from $3.63/gallon in 2012. For 2014, EIA projects an average price of $3.34/gallon.
For diesel fuel, an average retail price of $3.87/gallon is predicted for 2013, dropping to $3.78/gallon next year. In 2012, the average diesel-fuel price was $3.97/gallon.
