This Washington state-grown hay is being readied for export.
U.S. alfalfa hay exports totaled 131,741 metric tons (mt) in January, according to USDA’s Foreign Ag Service (FAS). That’s the lowest level since July of 2012.
Japan was the leading market for alfalfa hay at 42,888 mt, followed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at 42,888 mt and China at 30,604 mt.
Exports of other hay totaled 136,658 mt, also an 18-month low. Japan at 76,186 mt, South Korea at 26,106 mt, and China at 13,716 mt were the top markets.
