Figuring out which grass species to include in an alfalfa-grass mix is one on of the topics of Michigan State University (MSU) Extension’s Forage Field Day. It will be held July 29 at Brock Farms near Daggett.
The free program is intended for dairy farmers and others interested in high-quality forage production. Kim Cassida, MSU Extension forage specialist, and Extension educators will also discuss optimizing fiber content in dairy rations using grasses, cover crops and other pertinent forage topics.
Steve Brock, whose family milks around 800 Holstein cattle, will share his observations regarding fiber for his herd.
Lunch will be provided and is sponsored by the Menominee County Farm Bureau. To register, call Jim Isleib at 906-387-2530.
